About the Plot:-
The short film 'Hello Mamma' is based on Reetwika Banerjee’s original short story ‘Maa, Are You Listening’ published in 'Zenova20' book. The story of a mother-daughter relationship truly brings out the fact that probably there is nothing in human nature more resonant with charges than the flow of energy between two biologically alike bodies, one of which has lain in amniotic bliss inside the other, one of which has laboured to give birth to the other. The materials are here for the deepest mutuality and the most painful estrangement. The story questions its readers that “What do you think was the first sound to become a word, a meaning? I imagined two people without words, unable to speak to each other. I imagined the need: The colour of the sky that meant ‘storm.’ The smell of fire taught meant ‘Flee.’ The sound of a tiger about to pounce. Who would worry about these things? And then I realized what the first word must have been: 'Maa', the sound of a baby smacking its lips in search of her mother’s breast. For a long time, that was the only word the baby needed. Maa, maa, maa. Then the mother decided that was her name and she began to speak, too. She taught the baby to be careful: sky, fire, and tiger. A mother is always the beginning. She is how things begin.

About The film:-
The film very beautifully portrays three aspects of life. People will always hate you. They will hate you if you are beautiful. They will hate you if you are successful. They will hate you if you are right. They will hate you if you are popular. They will hate you when you get attention. They will hate you when people in their life like you. They will hate you if you worship a different version of their God. They will hate you if you are spiritual. They will hate you if you have courage. They will hate you if you have an opinion. They will hate you when people support you. They will hate you when they see you happy. They just hate. However, remember this: They hate you because you represent something they feel they don’t have. It really isn’t about you. It is about the hatred they have for themselves. And this beautiful saying is not said by me, but by our mothers. The film highlights microscopically the power of motherhood under the lights of a working Indian lady.
Secondly the film also gives a different perspectives of human emotion. The phrase itself “ Maa, are you listening” gives us a glimpse that Those who are close to us, when they die, divide our world. There is the world of the living, which we finally, in one way or another, succumb to, and then there is the domain of the dead that, like an imaginary friend (or foe) or a secret concubine, constantly beckons, reminding us of our loss. What is memory but a ghost that lurks at the corners of the mind, interrupting our normal course of life, disrupting our sleep in order to remind us of some acute pain or pleasure, something silenced or ignored? We miss not only their presence, or how they felt about us, but ultimately how they allowed us to feel about ourselves or them.
And lastly, the film accent to Dreams. Like seeds planted in the depths of our souls, our dreams are at the centre of who we really are. Our mission and our right is to nurture them and to allow them to grow. To follow your dreams takes courage, action, persistence, time and patience, but most of all, you must first believe in them. Believing in your dreams means that you trust your aspirations exist for a reason and the reason is your calling. Believing in your dreams means that you hold true that everything is possible and you can manifest the life and experiences you desire. Despite inculcating ourselves with depression, we know that dreaming is a form of planning. We know that everything we enjoy and appreciate around us – every advancement and contribution to society – developed from the commitment, perseverance, and belief in our dreams, as we believe in oir mothers and shout,” Maa, Are You listening?”
