Book Review by LITEROMA PUBLISHING SERVICES :: ‘Naivedya 2018’ by KARBA

** Thanks to the editorial committee for gifting us a review copy of the book.**

‘Naivedya’ is the annual flagship magazine of the best and most happening Durga Puja of Bangalore. It is published by KARBA (Kanakpura Road Bengali Association). The Puja has own five grand awards this year - Best Crowd Management, Best Puja Venue Branding, Best Venue & Facilities, Best Stage Decoration and Best Bisarjan. And KARBA's annual magazine 'Naivedya' is equally gorgeous as their Durga Puja celebrations.

The magazine showcases poetry, short stories, articles, recipes and travelogues in English, Bengali and Kannada languages. It also publishes beautiful sketches and paintings by young children from KARBA society. Right from the book cover to the contents, quality of print, dital imaging and overall layout designing - all exhibit an artistic class. The intellectual efforts put in by the executive committee and the editorial team in compiling these creative artworks get reflected at every nook and corner of the magazine.

Some of my personal favourites from ‘Naivedya 2018’ are - A Trip to South Pole by Satyarup Siddhanta, Durga Puja in South Indian homes by Vijaya Das, Tasting Life (poem) by Nivedita Basu, Bhantu (story) by Subrata Mandal, and Recipies by Sushmita Sarkar. Sketch of Goddess Durga by Monami Saha, Elephant impression by Shayari Maity, painting by Parnika Bardhan and Buddha by Mousumi Khatua deserve special mentions.

I wish all the best to the organizing committee of ‘Naivedya’ for their honest endeavour to bring out this wonderful magazine every year. A humble suggestion - the age of artists if could be mentioned in the paintings would make it more complete. Also, while adding background images, it must be ensured that the colour shades do not impact the contents (ex: for Bengali story 'Ashray' by Tina, some of the initial lines on second page became illegible due to the white contrast balance.). Last but not the least, instead of spiral binding, if the book can be published like a normal paperback binding, as a reader the appeal would increase a lot.

My overall rating of the book is 4.5*/5*. This book would prove to be an engrossing pick for anybody who is looking to taste the festive fervour and Bong culture surrounding Durga Puja.
