Book Review by #LITEROMA PUBLISHING SERVICES :: 'Making a Poem' by Vihang A. Naik

Vihang A. Naik is a Surat based bilingual poet (English and Gujarati), published in various anthologies and literary journals of India. 'Making a Poem' is his second book which is a collection of twenty five poems penned in English. Each poem depicts the poet's deep conscience through an inner eye and that's where it stands apart from other contemporary poetry books.

There is a very different style of poetry writing I found in Vihang's book. To quote a few lines from his poem "The end of an affair",
"She became a ghazal in return
First silence is poetry than words."
Wow how deep are his thoughts!!

Another couplet which touched my heart was from the poem "In rains"
"A poem sails
above road level
with yesterday's flood report."

Majority of his poems are like hymns, following no conventional style of English poetry and that made me love this book the most. Though there are some editing gaps in the last section of the book (opening sentences starting with small letters), but these minor things gets easily overlooked by the sensuous impact of Vihang's poetic touch.

I will like to rate Vihang's poetry book 'Making a Poem' 4.5*/5* and recommend it for a tea time reading.
