Book Review by #LITEROMA PUBLISHING SERVICES :: ‘The Son rose from the West’ by Devi Raghuvanshi

‘The Son rose from the West’ is the fourth published book by author Devi Raghuvanshi under the umbrella of Partridge Publishing. The first aspect which caught my eyes was the book title - initially I read it as 'sun' but soon realized it's 'son' not 'sun'. The cover aptly encompasses the theme of the book title. As I started moving ahead with the story, I slowly realized the appropriateness of the title. Nothing could have been better that what the author chose to freeze.
Having read three of his initial books, I had already set an expectation from the author about his narration style and content depth. But till I could reach the last page of the book, it touched my heart so subtly and deeply, that I landed on a different planet altogether - discovering so many unknown sides of our society, about a religious place like Mathura, their communities, conflicts between castes and so on.
The novel portrays the journey of two young women (Santosh and Shehzadi) and Aditya belonging to two contradictory stratas of the society, hailing from an unknown village near Mathura and how do they respond to challenges in their lives forms the backbone of the narrative. As a reader, my most interesting learning from the novel was the full form of JAT (Just Adore Them or Just Avoid Them) - lovely conceptualization in light of the story.
Only aspect which troubled me a bit was lack of proper introduction of the storyline (like a summary) and the chapterwise table of contents. It helps critical readers like me in setting the tone of the forthcoming reading experience. Else all good about this book.
Overall, I will be rating the book as 5*/5* and highly recommend for matured readers.
