#LITEROMA Book Review :: "Gem of Filth" by Srijoy Mitra

** Thanks to our reviewer Swapna Peri for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. **

Book Title:  Gem of Filth
Author: Srijoy Mitra
Format: Kindle & Paperback

Book Title
The title of the book ‘ Gem of Filth’ is unique and abstract

Book Cover
The cover image of the book is a very simple and abstract image of a spoilt fluid resembling blood that can be regarded as filth to supplement the title. Such abstract covers have a great effect on the reader’s mind and push the reader to read the book.

Inside the book
This book by author Srijoy Mitra is the second part of his first book ‘ Golden Wings ‘ which explains the rich yet suffocated life of Anicetus, the central character who is from CII and explores the world outside the walls i.e. his comfort zone. The other side of the wall is quoted as the slum area.

In this book, it is seen that Anicetus lives in the slum area, lives a life that is simple. Lives a life that is a perfect combination of happiness and harmony achieved by hard work and passion. The book has 10+ chapters where each chapter shows steady progress of Anicetus’s life projection towards the ultimate goal.

My review
Belonging to the dystopian genre, this book is an absolute gem. I could feel traces of Kafka’s and Murakami’s influence.  The very unusual names of the central character and no other character having a name, the places, and the properties used in the story apply universally to every other thing and person. These nuances made the book more interesting. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book.

What to expect
Expect a different yet thought-provoking book.

How good is the author’s writing style
Author Srijoy just excelled brilliantly in his second book. At a such young age, if he could write such complex subjects  he can create wonders in the nearby future. I thank the Literoma team for bringing Srijoy to their readers.

Who can read the book
Readers who are interested in reading absurd and abstract fiction or the readers who are willing to read something different can opt for this book.

Final Rating
