#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘21st century Buddha’ by Shreyans Kanswa

** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Seldom you find a book which touches a story and philosophy simultaneously with equal ease. ‘21st century Buddha’ by young author Shreyans Kanswa is one such rare example. Since the book is written in the first person, the reader will tend to strike an immediate chord with the protagonist. Ever since the story starts unfolding, the readers will be embarked on a modern retelling of deep-rooted philosophy. However, other than every thing else, the most important aspect of the book is how a young author picks up a topic which is all about deep philosophy of life. A slightly matured attempt would have made it to the best of 2020 list. The book cover is catchy and editing quality is on the better side than most of the self-published books. We would like to wish Mr. Shreyans Kanswa, the author, all the very best for his future writing stint. A must-read for anyone who is looking out for some positive vibe amidst ...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: 'Age of the Imperfect Leader: Leading from Strength' by Mr. Pawan Verma

** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Book Title: Age of the Imperfect Leader: Leading from Strength Author: Pawan Verma Format: Kindle Genre: Non fiction (Corporate motivational book) 'Age of the Imperfect Leader: Leading from Strength' by Mr. Pawan Verma is a book on management (non fiction). It presents the readers with an entirely different perspective of leadership.  What makes this book a good read for all prospective and practising leaders is the fact that it does not provide a checklist of effective leadership. Instead, it adopts the more contemporary 'different strokes for different folks' strategy. Modesty is one of the key attributes of leadership - as proposed by the author. While the majority of leadership books talk about the set of things one needs to do to emerge as good leaders, Mr. Verma talks about making your strong points stronger in order to achieve not just good leadership heights but great leadership milestone...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: "Gem of Filth" by Srijoy Mitra

** Thanks to our reviewer Swapna Peri for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Book Title:  Gem of Filth Author: Srijoy Mitra Format: Kindle & Paperback Book Title The title of the book ‘ Gem of Filth’ is unique and abstract Book Cover The cover image of the book is a very simple and abstract image of a spoilt fluid resembling blood that can be regarded as filth to supplement the title. Such abstract covers have a great effect on the reader’s mind and push the reader to read the book. Inside the book This book by author Srijoy Mitra is the second part of his first book ‘ Golden Wings ‘ which explains the rich yet suffocated life of Anicetus, the central character who is from CII and explores the world outside the walls i.e. his comfort zone. The other side of the wall is quoted as the slum area. In this book, it is seen that Anicetus lives in the slum area, lives a life that is simple. Lives a life that is a perfect combination of happiness and harmony a...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: "Gem of Filth" by Srijoy Mitra

** Thanks to our reviewer Chitranshu Mandhar for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Genre: Dystopia/ Fiction/ Young-Adult Review: The novella is a  continuation of the author’s previous book Golden Wings. Having read the first book, I was expecting more from the second part of the series. The first half of the book is a bit slow but it gradually speeds up as the story moves forward. Though it is a piece of fiction the incidents depicted in the book closely resembles the struggle of surviving in the harsh world by a lone child. The author has beautifully represented a man’s need for belongingness to a group. For Ani, the boy from the concrete world, survival is difficult as he doesn’t know the rules of the slum. He is mocked, made fun of, beaten but he learns and survives. He learns about the basics of gardening (yes he is from the concrete world and doesn’t know what seeds are and how to grow a plant) and when he realizes that he needs his green zone for comfort ...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: "The Story Begins at The End" by Sujay

The premises of the stories are very different... What one can find and expect from the present set of short stories, these stories stand quite apart. The plots range from sensitive topics like bisexuality to fewer known topics like the lives of military personnel, their hardships, bizarre experiences owing to the risks they take etc. What uniquely binds all the seventeen stories is the way they end. All the stories have an intelligent ending which makes the reader think about the plot even after finish reading the book. That’s what takes this book to the next level. Only shortcoming is the book cover, which could have made it a better read anytime. Our rating of the book is 4....

Book Review by #LITEROMA :: "Soul Stirrer" by Alakananda Pramanik

Image
** Thanks to the author for gifting us a Kindle copy of the book for review. ** ** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Upon seeing the full name of the book ‘Soul Stirrer: An Anthology of real-life stories’ by Ms. Alakananda Pramanik, the perception that majority of the readers will form instantly is it is just one of those books which tell some random stories from different walks of life. Well! Wait a second. That’s where this book differentiates itself from other books of the genre. This is an anthology of ten different stories written by the extremely talented and versatile author Ms. Alakananda. True to its title this book tells real life stories from various corners of life. One common thread that connects all the stories is the simplicity. The storylines are simple, and the characters present in the stories are also simple. But these two simple components together form an extremely powerful content which no reader can ignore. All the...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: "Dear Russell, Yours Truly" by Avantika Debnath

Image
** Thanks to the author for gifting us a Kindle copy of the book for review. ** ** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** ‘Dear Russell, Yours Truly’ is a wonderful collection of seven power-packed short stories written by a very promising writer Ms. Avantika Debnath. Ms. Debnath already created ripples of popularity in the literary domain through her debut book ‘The Bridal Pyre - Nainam Dahati Pawakah’. We’re sure her second book ‘Dear Russel, Yours Truly’ has enough power to turn that ripple into waves of popularity. The liking for the book starts with the subjects picked for the seven stories. It continues throughout for the beautiful story telling done by the author. However, what amazes the readers the most is the way the stories get concluded. Each story ends in the most unlikely way. Book cover is also good. Editing gaps are there but can be ignored keeping in mind the quality contents. Our rating of the book is 4.6*/5*. The book ticks...

Book Review by #LITEROMA :: "There’s a poet in everyone" by Dr. Diwakar Pokhriyal

Image
** Thanks to the author for gifting us a Kindle copy of the book for review. ** ** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** ‘There’s a poet in everyone’ by Dr. Diwakar Pokhriyal is a very very special book in its own right. The book title tells a lot about its genre. Poetry is the most difficult form of writing and the main barrier towards writing poetry is to think of a structure in this free flowing stream of emotion. That’s where a book like ‘There’s a poet in everyone’ plays a very important role in today’s poetic realm. In a world which is going through changing dynamics, one thing that remains constant is human emotion and hence the relevance of poetry. This particular book is going to help all the persons with a flair of creativity to shape up the poets in them. Being a poet himself Dr. Diwakar does a fantastic job of analyzing the poetic psyche and builds this book around that premise. Of all the things, the book cover is the only point w...

#Literoma Book Review - 'Vignettes of Life' by Sujit Dutta

Thanks to author for sharing a review copy of the book with #Literoma. Thanks to our reviewer Sneha Prakash Thakur for reviewing the book on behalf of #Literoma. "Vignettes of Life " is collection of 14 short stories. These stories revolve around human emotions and real life experiences . Each story deals with different emotions and themes. It's quite refreshing to read a collection with so many different themes. Each story is unique. I have read a book like this after long time. It will keep you hooked till end. Although I liked each story, there are few stories which I loved immensely. These are ," The mysterious Woman", which is spooky yet emotional. The few others are "The Gift of love, " lost memories " and " The pearl". Each tells a story full of emotion and really touched my heart. The language is good and engaging. The narration is crisp and to the point. My rating - 4*/5*. A must read. Read all our book reviews at...

#Literoma Book Review :: Pentacles by Sabarna Roy

** Thanks to the author for gifting us an ecopy of the book for review. ** ** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** I had earlier read a couple of recent titles by the same author and it was my third in a row. Though 'Pentacles' is Sabarna's first published book but the order I took it came in third. Irrespective of the chronology, this book created a very special place in my heart. Comprising of a long story (or shall I say novella) and four prosaic verses, it has somehow the perfect flavour I keep searching in a literary fiction. The New Life story plot revolves around a city very known to me, so are the characters. The descriptions are vivid enough to even imagine what my eyes did not witness in reality. There are quite a few editing errors but that can be overlooked against the author's hard works. The book's cover is average but quite self explanatory. My overall rating of the book is 4.1*/5*. Can be read during lei...

#Literoma Book Review - 'Vignettes of Life' by Sujit Dutta

Thanks to author for sharing a review copy of the book with #Literoma. Thanks to our reviewer Deepti Menon for reviewing the book on behalf of #Literoma. Reading this book by Sujit Dutta is like a tour, starting with the sighting of a mysterious woman in a deserted cottage right to the fourteenth story that ends on a tantalizing note, and a rare pearl. The author lauds the magnificence of India through descriptions of his protagonists’ lives, knotted through emotions veering between hope, love, loyalty, friendship and ambition. The Army connection is palpable. The stories travel from the ice-capped Himalayas in Ladakh and the allure of Guwahati, to the “haunting whistle of the steam engine” in the Delhi Rail Museum, and lost memories in Kolkata. As the river flows silently in Puducherry, the poignancy of the loss of parents comes out in Barmer, even as a sister waits for her brother’s homecoming in Bhopal. A hopeful couple meet in a Mumbai suburban train and rise above the vicis...

#Literoma Book Review - 'Vignettes of Life' by Sujit Dutta

Thanks to author for sharing a review copy of the book with #Literoma. Thanks to our reviewer Satabdi Mukherjee for reviewing the book on behalf of #Literoma. The 14 short stories in this collection span the length and breadth of the country, and even feature other countries like Sri Lanka, Australia, and Canada. It is perhaps a testament to the comprehensive life experiences of the author. No story is like another--the wide variety of themes is mind-boggling. You will read about love, separation, terrorism, supernatural encounters, natural calamities, death, familial ties, addiction, and so much more. The language is simple and easy to understand. The beauty of the tales lie in the simplicity of their storytelling. As you read each story, it seems like the author is sitting in front of you, recounting his experiences while you listen in rapt attention. I particularly liked the attractive and polished cover art. The whole look gels very well with the contents of the book. Al...
