Image
** Thanks to our reviewer Manish for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Title: The Crosshairs of Life Author: Rimli Bhattacharya Genre: Short Story Language: English Format: Paperback & Kindle Edition: 1 No of pages: 150 approx. Mumbai based bestselling writer Ms. Rimli Bhattacharya made her literary debut with this short story collection titled ‘The Crosshairs of Life’. Rightly as the name suggests, the stories woven in this book revolve around various human feelings and emotions, crossing each other's paths in a bittersweet way. Angst, mental illness, romance and betrayal are some of the commonly touched attributes of human behaviour which has been artistically bound together by Rimli in her stories.  To quote author, "it is a pot-pourri of tales" and surprisingly many of the protagonists bear a hazy shadow of the author herself. That makes the characters realistic and close to life. Sacrificing a top notch professional life when Rimli took the biggest ...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘That Day It Rained’ by Rimli Bhattacharya

** Thanks to our reviewer Manish for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Title: That Day It Rained Author: Rimli Bhattacharya Genre: Short Story Language: English Format: Paperback & Kindle Edition: 1 No of pages: 200 approx. ‘That Day It Rained’ is the second solo book by Mumbai based bestselling writer Ms. Rimli Bhattacharya. A gold medallist and star performer in professional life, Rimli gave up her top corporate career for the sake of writing. And that is perhaps the biggest blessing of Indian literary space. A talent like her is born to express her thoughts, griefs, experiences of life through her pen. What gives rise is unforgettable stories. That's what makes this book of short stories so special.  The stories are not only woven by human emotions, but also the right pinch of overcoming traumas, abuses and crimes that they might have faced in their lives. The protagonists do reflect a shade of the writer herself at times, and they always stand by the side ...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: 'The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons' by Paras

Image
** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** ‘The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons’ by author Paras is a collection of thirteen short stories which are mostly different human tales with daily life set at the backdrop. But this 'daily life' of whom is the main twist of this book. To quote the author, "It has characters from all walks of life, many of them, we may even have come across. A boy who is amputee, highs and lows of friendship, a guy who leaves home and join eunuchs, a home-maker suffering from domestic violence, travel restrictions during covid-19, life and struggle of someone in prostitution, an insane doctor, mother-son relationship and so on." It took me almost over a week to finish reading the book. Each story comprises of relatable characters and also narrates lucid sagas in a less complicated manner. However, one story which really stands out is '28 years' which happens to be the first story of the book. This ...

#LITEROMA Book Review - "Stamped, Sealed but Unsent' by Nilshree Yelulkar & Debolina Coomar

** Thanks to our reviewer Tamal for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma **  The title itself captures the essence of a lost art and the tagline "A Thoughtfully Penned Bouquet Of Letters!" made me pick and read this book in one go. I can't stop but appreciating the book cover too. It is so aptly designed.  As the name suggests it’s an anthology of letters written by authors to imaginary recipients. A total of 27 women authors had come together to write unique letters to different characters. What is most encouraging is to find the range of imagery portrayed by these artistic senders.  There are so many unusual letters addressed to one’s adolescent self, to Covid, to anyone looking for hope etc. All the letters are quite absorbing in nature. However, one letter which stands out is the one written by Dr. Sachi Bang. This letter is sent by the mind to our body which is surely the need of the hour. The editing quality of the book is perhaps the lone recommendation from th...

Rimli Bhattacharya: The Rising Star of Literoma Galaxy

Image
Author: Rimli Bhattacharya Romance is a popular yet a very difficult genre to explore in literature and that's exactly where Rimli Bhattacharya has ventured into with a smashing record over the years. Her first book 'The Crosshairs of Life' received a warm welcome earlier. However, Rimli's recent release 'That Day It Rained' made it to the Literoma Bestsellers at Book Fair 2021 (Kolkata, New Town). Both of Rimli's story books are tied to the same string of dark romance and nuptial abuses on women. It seems Rimli has mastered the genre with her powerful nib.  Most of her storylines bring out tough dilemmas of women when she is subject to extreme social, psychological or physical assaults by her own family members and/or dear ones. 'Running a Solo Marathon' from her debut book narrates how difficult is the life of a single woman / mother, fighting against all odds of life. Similarly, the title story of her second book, 'That Day It Rained' port...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘The Little Secrets to Big Joy’ by Alakananda Pramanik

Image
** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Seldom you find a book which touches a story and philosophy simultaneously with equal ease. ‘The Little Secrets to Big Joy’ by Alakananda Pramanik is one such rare example. Leading by examples, the author has showered her vivid experiences of life in the form of moral stories, inspirational quotations and poetic expressions in the said title.  Since the book is written in very simple language on contemporary topics, readers will tend to strike an immediate chord with the author. Every story comes with a great lesson, coupled with motivational words in between. At every page, the readers will be embarked on a modern retelling of human psychology. The book cover is catchy and editing quality is on the better side than most of the self-published books. In fact, the book has all the elements to make it to the bestsellers list of 2021. We would like to wish Alakananda Pramanik, the author, all the very best...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Trains in a Bath Tub’ by Asheemita Bagchi

** Thanks to our reviewer Reetwika Banerjee for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Genre: Poetry Language: English No of poems: 30 No of pages: 60 Shelf: Young Adult Format: Paperback & eBook Poetry is always my first love and even today I pickup all genres of poetry for reading, reciting and more importantly dreaming. Asheemita's poems have that magical touch which took me to a bliss after after I closed it tangibly. Not all poets or books can create that dream world for its readers.  I loved:- 1. The book cover undoubtedly. 2. The writing style of Asheemita. It has a very urban style. 3. Variation of contents - romance, adulthood, friendship, nostalgia, travel and what not! 4. Book title - so unconventional. I wanted for more:- 1. Cover title should have been the opening poem of the book. 2. The book cover is very nice but may not be the perfect fit for the content. From the cover I expected it to be a children poetry book but it was young adult genre. 3. I wi...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Trains in a Bath Tub’ by Asheemita Bagchi

** Thanks to our reviewer Satabdi for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. **   I found the title of this poetry collection unusual. Asheemita removes the suspense about why she made such a choice in the preface where she describes, in raw detail, how she began her journey in the world of poetry. Asheemita’s poems took my breath away with their richness, beauty, sensitivity, and insightfulness. The subjects span from slice-of-life observations to love and heartbreak to travel to simply musings. The ease with which she has woven real-life references into her whimsical lines is enviable. I’ve read so many poetry collections, but this one spoke to me differently. I could relate to the poems more closely. I could imagine some of them in my head–so vivid is the imagery. The free-verse format of the poems adds to their intensity of feeling. My favorite poems are Women, Kohl, February (where the trains in the bathtub are mentioned), and Apartments. “Who Will Remember Us?” was disturb...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Trains in a Bath Tub’ by Asheemita Bagchi

** Thanks to our reviewer Tamal for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Poetry is never my genre. But the very title literally pulled me to pick this book. Author did a great job indeed in keeping her reader engrossed till the last poem. Here are my hits and misses:- HITS 1. Very sleek contents. The thinness compelled me to finish in a single reading.  2. Cover is very catchy, apt to its title. 3. Writing style is contemporary and so are her topics. She has brought out a poetic expression for almost all her adolescent emotions through this book. MISSES 1. Not really, but some lined illustrations could have added a little visual appeal. 2. The title and overall tone of the poems did not gel well for me. Probably, a more suitable title would have appealed a seasoned reader like me. I would like to rate the book as 3.9*/5*. Great News for Poetry Lovers!!

Image
It’s time to stop hunting and keeping your eye on the screen for the release of a heart-touching collection of English Poetry by Sarmistha Mukherjee - Paradise at my Shore . The title itself is a self-explanatory one: giving a feelings just like ‘Heaven on Earth’! The Poetess here very nicely portrays her enriched thoughts filled with the experiences of Life earned through decades. It shows that she had freed herself from the Earthly entanglements which had also made her feel the Joy of Realizing the Ultimate Truth of Life which is destined to meet the Supreme Lord!! Her poetic mind as well as paintings and photography found in the book will depict the reality in a very imaginative way, with a subtle merging of the beautiful nature with the barren artificialness of a modern society. At the same time, I, Gargi Sanyal, must say, each and every one of them will reflect her strong command over English, which all together, I am sure, is positively going to attract the readers from the cor...

#Literoma Interview: Dr. RAKHI SAMEER

Image
Here's a tete-e-tete with the author of 'Psychology of Money' - Dr. RAKHI SAMEER Q1 .Let’s begin with discovering unknown shades of the Dr. Rakhi Sameer and Author Rakhi Sameer.   Ans. I love to read and write. My mother used to write a lot. We, my brother and me, were always encouraged to give expression to our thoughts and feelings. There was always a lot of talk about literature, be it English, Hindi or Urdu . There were discussions on Tagore, Moin, Ghalib, Somerset Maugham, Hardy and others in the house. So I guess, the entire environment was very conducive for a creative mind. As a person too I am a very thoughtful, independent person, also very opinionated. I have very strong liberal political views.  Q2 Is there any particular event which inspired you to write this book?   Ans. I would not say any event actually, but my stepping into a whole new world. When I got married from simple middle class, small town person, daughter of Gandhian parents, who wore Khadi a...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Psychology of Money’ by Dr. Rakhi Sameer

** Thanks to our reviewer Sananda for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Genre: Non fiction Language: English No of pages: 100 approx Theme: Self-help Format: Paperback Dr. Rakhi Sameer has done a splendid job relating money with human psychology. Being a student of psychology, I vet for her logical inter-relations drawn in this book. Money is something which everyone in this world needs and it is extremely critical to know how to handle it. In second chapter she has also defined different types of human 'personality' related to accumulated wealth.  At one place she says, "A pattern can be seen in our relationship with money. If we ascertain the money pattern of our personality, we can have a healthier relationship with money. We need to first find out our present equation with money. We also need to find out how we got there. We will have to explore the history of our family. Explore stories about our parents and sometimes, our grandparents as well. Exploring o...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Trains in a Bath Tub’ by Asheemita Bagchi

** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Genre: Poems Language: English No of poems: 30 Theme: Open Format: Paperback Well, this is a poetry book of assorted topics mostly dealing with emotions captured during early days of adulthood. The cover page and book title are very gripping and exciting at the same time.  Loved the fonting because to avid readers like me, reading experience matters a lot. The designer and author did a wonderful job in keeping a reader glued to the contents till the end. The poems are very short ones, though a handful are little longer, but the best part being the deep emotions pouring out of every line. Choice of words has been absolutely perfect. Though the poems are not beaded onto a single string of thought, but some of them really touched my heart.  To quote a few lines from her poem titled 'February':- "I have loved footpaths and February, Since the dawn of time A standout among the seasons, With accidents, ...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Psychology of Money’ by Dr. Rakhi Sameer

** Thanks to our reviewer Satabdi Mukherjee for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** Our attitudes to money are usually determined during childhood–shaped by our experiences, shaped by the attitudes of our parents towards money, and even shaped by the attitude of people around us towards money. We may have a harmonious relationship with money or we may find it extremely stressful to deal with money. We may even be reluctant to delve into our personal finance. Such attitudes could be harming our lifestyle and the potential to earn and maintain wealth. Dr. Rakhi Sameer talks about the most commonly seen attitudes towards money and how we can change them for the better. The core message of this book is that one does not have to be afraid of money. When we treat money as a friend, it repays us many times over. In simple and easily understandable language, she guides us through the influences that lead us to form a relationship with money. She teaches us to examine how we view...

#LITEROMA Book Review :: "Vitamin H - Vol 2" by Abhishek Vipul Thakkar

Image
** Thanks to the author for gifting us a paperback copy of the book for review. ** ** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. ** "Vitamin H : Vol 2" is the third book by author Abhishek Vipul Thakkar, an M.A. in English literature and young speaker hailing from Ahmedabad. I was lucky to have read and reviewed his previous volume as well which had 111 quotes. Can't stop but say, these 152 quotes published in this volume are your path to self-discovery, self-introspection and self-realization with a heavy dose of positivity. This volume too has quite a few unique points which I liked:- 1. The unconventional shape & size of the book - It's a square sized small book little bigger than a pocket read. Same as first volume. 2. The title of the book is very interesting - Vitamin H which has nothing to do with health or medicine.  3. The book contain 152 quotations which are NOT titled serially, but daywise. Well, it also continues as a sequel ...
